A quick catch up with Hive IT
EW: First up, tell us a bit about Hive IT?
H: Hive IT are a team of highly experienced software developers and web designers, who can turn our hand to a number of services including UX consultancy, bespoke software development and interaction design.
We have found ourselves working with some great brands and public sector clients to deliver robust web solutions. Many of the projects I cannot mention due to Non-Disclosure Agreements and the nature of our work but we work with a range of clients including Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), Park Group, Fretwell-Downing, Northern Gas Networks & BT.
EW: It’s amazing that Hive IT has grown so much within Electric Works as you started with a Club Membership, moved up to a shared office and now own your own office. What is it that has made you stay within Electric Works?
H: Yes, we have grown so much since moving to the Electric Works, which was always the plan, but its great how well it has actually worked out.
We initially chose Electric Works for the very reason that it would support growth (along with of course the great location, staff, facilities and likeminded tenants). We literally started the business with nothing, no clients or equipment and just a bit of savings for capital. Being a member of the Club Lounge was an affordable option which gave us an immediate home and state of the art facilities. It allowed us to concentrate on investing our efforts into building a client base and reputation, without the overhead of an office.
As we took on more staff, we obviously outgrew the shared lounge, but we made some great friends and contacts and look back on it fondly. The fact that the next step up to a Shared Office was also affordable, and the Electric Works were so flexible to our needs, meant we never really considered anywhere else.
Fingers crossed we will be looking for more space in the coming year, and its great to know the option to scale up further can be there, without having to relocate.
EW: How are you settling in to your new office?
H: We love our office space, and are gradually turning the room into a full size bee hive. We have clients from all across the UK and yet always find they want to come and visit us here! We love to work in collaboration with our clients and partners, so the fact we can host them and quickly get a meeting or project room booked is ideal.
I think the office location is second to none, and it works in our favour too when we have to jump on a train Leeds, Liverpool or London with 5 minutes notice.
EW: And what’s coming up for Hive IT? We appreciate that you can’t tell us all your secrets!
H: At the moment, we are just enjoying being in demand, getting great feedback and seeing our (clients) web solutions out there. There appears to be a real confidence in our market at the moment but we will continue to grow at a sensible pace in which we can maintain the high levels of quality and customer service we are known for.
As an agency we never quite know what is around the corner, and we can apply our expertise to any number of sectors or industries. So if anyone out there reading this has a digital challenge, get in touch!
